After so long, Fred Rogers' life is finally solidifying. It appears that he served in the 3rd Cavalry, back when they were real cavalry. They were just in the process of mechanizing at about the time he would be getting out. Unfortunately, one of my favourite authors, Bernard Cornwell, takes a rather dim view of cavalry troopers -- "The horses have all the brains."
